ABOUT
Teng Yu Qing 陈玉青 (b. 1996, Singapore)
is a Singaporean artist and dancer. She graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interactive Media from Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media.
Her work spans various roles, driven by a deep interest in artistic research and experience creation. As an artist, she strives to approach her practice with empathy, often engaging in transdisciplinary collaborations. Her work predominantly explores the theme of relationships—particularly the connections between individuals and between humans and nature. Through her art, she aims to raise awareness and shift perceptions of how we interact with the world around us. Guided by a process rooted in observation, breath, emotion, and movement (shaped by her dance background), her pieces dissolve the boundaries between material, space, and concept.
As a student, Teng was commissioned by Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) to conceptualize and create a sculpture that was unveiled during the opening ceremony of Art Tapestry 2011, a biennial RGS Arts Festival. Teng was trained in Chinese Dance since 2000, and has performed and choreographed in this genre, including a performance for Talking Cheongsams by Galina Mihaleva at National Museum of Singapore. Her background in dance has been instrumental in characterising her works.
