ABOUT
Teng Yu Qing 陈玉青 (b. 1996, Singapore)
is a Singaporean artist and dancer. She graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Interactive Media from Nanyang Technological University, School of Art, Design and Media.
She has worked in various capacities, with a keen interest in artistic research and experience creation. Her art making practice strives to be empathetic and involves transdisciplinary collaborations. Her work predominantly revolves around the theme of relationships - the relationships within and between humankind and nature. She seeks to raise awareness and alter perceptions regarding our interaction with the world around us. With a process driven by observation, feeling and movement (from her dance background), her works dissolves the boundaries between material, space and concept.
As a student, Teng was commissioned by Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) to conceptualize and create a sculpture that was unveiled during the opening ceremony of Art Tapestry 2011, a biennial RGS Arts Festival. Teng was trained in Chinese Dance since 2000, and has performed and choreographed in this genre, including a performance for Talking Cheongsams by Galina Mihaleva at National Museum of Singapore. Her background in dance has been instrumental in characterising her works.
